Title: Tackling anti-social behaviour: information and case studies about local authority work - Research Briefing Paper 16
Authors: Ruth Lucas and Juliet Whitworth
Date published: July 2002
Number of pages: 36 pages

This report brings together information from the Home Office and Local Government Association's (LGA) recent surveys on how local authorities are tackling anti-social behaviour.

The report details several case studies on how various authorities are dealing with anti-social behaviour. These show that, although anti-social behaviour orders are one method of dealing with this type of behaviour, there are a number of complimentary methods that may be used instead, such as injunctions, Acceptable Behaviour Agreements/Contracts, Parental Control Agreements, mediation and diversionary activities.

The final section of the report focuses on specific projects developed by local authorities, which look at prevention, education and intervention for dealing with anti-social behaviour.
