What is distraction burglary?

 

Any crime where a falsehood, trick or distraction is used on an occupant of a dwelling to gain, or try to gain, access to the premises to commit burglary.

Burglary against older people is particularly distasteful, but fortunately they are at low risk of burglary generally. Elderly people are, however, often the target of distraction burglars. This is also relatively rare but it is a heinous crime where perpetrators prey on the trust and vulnerability of older people.
