Domestic Violence
Multi-Agency Guidance for Addressing Domestic Violence
Multi-Agency Guidance for Addressing Domestic Violence replaces a joint Home Office/Welsh Office inter-agency circular of 1995.
The guidance was prepared and published by the Home Office in collaboration with Cabinet Office Women’s Unit; Crown Prosecution Service; Department for Education and Employment; Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions; Department of Health; Lord Chancellor’s Department; Department of Social Security; The National Assembly for Wales; and Department of Culture, Media and Sport
The guidance is addressed particularly to:
statutory crime and disorder reduction partnerships
courts and the court service
the Crown Prosecution Service
the police
the probation service
local government - including particularly education, youth and leisure services, housing and social service departments
the Health Service.
It gives general information on domestic violence, sets out some of the issues all agencies should bear in mind, discusses, with examples, some of the ways in which individually and together they can address domestic violence effectively, gives advice on multi-agency working and includes advice on other sources of information. It does not give detailed operational guidance.
