The DPI programme of work covers various thematic approaches to community based drugs prevention, including work with young people, parents, community involvement approaches and criminal justice interventions. Those themes are consistent with the aims of the national strategy Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain and they have been identified in this good practice guidance booklet under the following strategic aims:
Aim (i): Young People - to help young people resist drug misuse in order to achieve their full potential in society
Aim (ii): Communities - to protect our communities from drug-related anti- social and criminal behaviour
In addition, the good practice points cover the following cross-cutting themes -integration, training, racial and cultural diversity, and information/communications- which are crucial to the effectiveness of any drugs prevention strategy. It is worth repeating that the guidance is based on emerging learning from the DPI programme. It is influenced to a large degree by practical learning from the various DPI programmes and other sources which it is hoped DATs can use to good effect.
