Luton CDRP has successfully mainstreamed its Christmas period response to alcohol related crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour (ASB) so that it can be used to mobilise partners at short notice at other key times. During Christmas 2007 and 2008 'Operation Conch' involved a high visibility police presence in the town centre to deal with alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour and violence, and provide medical care. Crime and ASB was significantly reduced in 2008, saving nearly 200 hours of police time. The 'Town Centre Triage' provided treatment, advice and support to injured and vulnerable persons (including one life saving case) reducing ambulance visits by a third.
