Have your say on criminal justice

In April 2009 the Government launched the Engaging Communities in Criminal Justice Green Paper.

This consultation aims to allow communities to have a greater say in what is being done to tackle local problems, to have their concerns taken account in court, and to have a say in how offenders right the wrongs they've committed.

We would like to hear your views on criminal justice. To have your say go to the 2-minute online poll or visit the Criminal Justice System website.

You don't have to answer every question, just those that matter most to you - but please do get involved and have your say.

Did you know...

Burglary facts

  • 35% of all burglaries are crimes of opportunity, where the burglar lets themselves in through unlocked doors or windows
  • You are ten times more likely to be burgled if you don't have basic security - even something as simple as putting strong locks on your doors and windows will keep your house much safer
  • Burglary has fallen by nearly 60% since 1995, but criminals are opportunists who will take advantage of any chance to steal from you, so you should remain aware.

The Home Office has put together an information pack on securing your property, to order call 0800 456 1213 quoting 'burglary pack'.

You will also receive a discount voucher for home security supplies at major DIY retailers.

SAFE joint working in Leicestershire
Youth Council

The North West Leicestershire Youth Council successfully bid for community funding to host a series of workshops for 13-16 year olds on various community safety issues.

The Youth Council worked in partnership with the district's Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership and a local college to set up the 'SAFE' workshops. It is the first time different organisations have worked collaboratively to address community safety issues specifically determined by young people, and at an event hosted by young people for young people. The workshop's branding and logo were also designed by the young people and they made all key decisions on event management.
