Proposal for new points system for earning citizenship
The UK Border Agency has put forward proposals for a new points test for probationary citizenship which will award migrants points for building up different attributes and skills.
The plans would see people rewarded for economic contributions, skills and English language proficiency above the level already expected. Points could be removed and citizenship withheld or delayed for those breaking the law or committing anti-social behaviour.
The consultation document ' Earning the Right to Stay: A new points test for citizenship' is open for comment until 26 October.
