Youth Crime Prevention: an overview
Bernard Lane, Crime Strategy and Resources Unit, Home Office

Bernard Lane identified why youth crime is a priority and some of the risk factors associated with young people and offending. He touched on the youth crime strategy and how this links with the prolific and other priority offenders strategy, preventing the most active young offenders escalating into the next generation of prolific offenders. He set out the elements of the prevent and deter strand for young people and the next steps in achieving full implementation.

The Role of YOTs in the Prevention of Offending and ASB
Bob Ashford, Youth Justice Board YJB

Bob Ashford detailed the research messages which underlie prevention of youth offending and some of the programmes that assist the YJB in addressing its work. He looked specifically at Youth Inclusion Panels, Youth Inclusion and Support Panels, and parenting, mentioning achievements and practice and the joint guidance to Youth Offending Teams. He also highlighted some of the questions raised by the Green Paper.
