Presentations and discussions on alcohol and the night time economy
Safer Swansea Partnership: Tackling alcohol and the night time economy in partnership with health
Phil Davies, South Wales Police, and Patrick Rees, Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust
Phil Davies and Patrick Rees explained the problem of city centre violence in Swansea, showing video clips of the sort of behaviour encountered through binge drinking.
They highlighted the need for intervention to resolve high volume calls to police and ambulance staff together with the violence towards ambulance and A&E staff and presented the plan agreed through partnership with all the agencies involved. A triage centre has been set up close to the source of problems with paramedics and nurses to intervene early with clinical cases, preventing excessive ambulance journeys and streamlining workload for A&E. Police attendance assures staff safety and a multi-agency command room allows for monitoring of incidents from all perspectives and helps with police resourcing.
