Who are the broadcast media?

Every area of the UK is covered by a regional BBC TV station and an independent regional TV station. Both stations will seek to provide a local news service, reflecting issues that affect their viewers.

They provide short local news bulletins alongside the main national news broadcasts of the day and, on weekdays, a longer early evening programme focusing on the day’s events in the region. Regional TV stations also produce their own current affairs or political news programmes to focus on local issues in more detail. Although they produce similar programmes, each station has its own presentation style, and it is worth studying their output carefully.

Television journalists limit themselves to the most important news stories and lighter items with a good visual content, so don’t expect to get their attention unless your story matches up to their expectations.
