In 2002 the BCS indicated that fear of crime (as measured against vehicle crime, burglary and violent crime) is going down since it peaked in 1994.  31% of respondents said that fear of crime has a moderate impact on their quality of life, whilst 6% said it greatly affected their quality of life:

Actual average yearly reduction for 1995 - 2000:

Vehicle theft

18% of vehicle owners are very worried about their car being stolen.

Vehicle theft down 8% per year.

Burglary

16% of respondents are very worried about being burgled.

Burglary down 7% per year.

Violent crime

17% are very worried about being physically attacked.

Violent crime down 6% per year.
