Considering fear of crime |

Communicating without raising fear In our eagerness to encourage the public to take action to prevent or reduce crime, it is easy to fall into the trap of inadvertently heightening fear of crime. Making people more scared is an obvious way to give them the motivation to take steps to improve their security and many crime prevention campaigns have fallen foul of this approach. The Home Office recommends that all crime reduction communication should aim to present an accurate picture of crime, offering crime prevention advice in a way which is non threatening and designed to reassure.
