Introductions, languages and communication issues Communication and mutual understanding are things we can easily take for granted. But it's easy to make assumptions that people have understood our meaning when in fact they haven't. An obvious example would be the use of highly technical language, crime reduction and community safety jargon, or 'in-jokes' in any form of public presentation, regardless of the ethnic origin of the audience. In such a situation, the chances are that much of the key information will get lost in confusion and lack of clarity, which will lead to lack of interest and attention. In interactions between people from different cultural backgrounds, care in communication is even more important. From the start people need to understand who you are and where you are from. Uniforms can easily be confused, so be ready with a simple, personal introduction which helps to set everything else in a clear context. when home visiting
