Access to information

For people with a limited understanding of English, or poor eyesight or hearing, the range of accessible information is significantly reduced. Because of the deficit of information, these people may be unaware of the very existence of certain topical issues, available services or legislation that affect their lives.

It is essential to remember that disabled people need much the same amount and type of information as everyone else.

The following sections outline some of the reasons why people experience difficulty accessing information, and identify the media most effective in overcoming the problems.

people who are blind or partially sighted

people who are deaf or hard of hearing

people who are deaf blind

people who have learning difficulties

people with literacy problems

older people
