Setting objectives 

Before trying to set any communication objectives, the initial focus must be on the Partnership’s objectives and goals for reducing crime.  You should ensure that communication objectives flow from these overarching business objectives. See fig 1 below.

Communication Objectives

 

Devise overall communication objectives, and then try to refine them to be as specific as possible. The more you can break down objectives, the more measurable they will become. 

Objectives are best set with reference to clearly identified audiences, messages and timing. An objective which states clearly that you want to communicate x message y audience by z date, will meet the specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound (SMART) criteria.
