Introduction

For a moment, forget that you are involved in crime reduction and imagine you are a member of the local community in your partnership area:

  • Do you receive regular messages about crime reduction initiatives in your area?

  • Do you receive these messages in a variety of ways – the local paper, local TV and radio stations, leaflets pushed through the door, posters in the shops or library?

  • Do you receive a consistent story about the safety of your local community?

  • Do you receive similar messages on crime and crime reduction from all the agencies and voluntary and community groups?

  • Do you know that local agencies and groups are working together in a partnership to reduce crime and make your local area safer?

  • Do you find it easy to let the partnership know what you think about community safety in your area?

  • Does the partnership listen to and act on feedback from members of the community?

If you answered no to any of these questions, then your partnership needs an improved communications strategy.

This package will help you, but remember each area is different.  This package does not advocate a ‘one size fits all’ strategy, but it will provide you with a framework and ideas that you can adapt to suit your partnership’s local circumstances.
