*** January's bulletin begins ***

With apologies for the lack of bulletin last month, please find enclosed this month's Crime Reduction Website monthly bulletin. I've tried to include the best of what's been added to the site since the end of November.

CDRP DAT Self-assessment

We've added a major new area to the site to help guide you through the CDRP/DAT self-assessment process. You can download copies of the self-assessment form and view sample completed forms and improvement plans. We've published an extensive set of frequently asked questions and re-formatted the training given around the country into 6 online modules that you can listen to in your own time.

Statistics

The publication of three new bulletins means we've updated much of the statistical material on the site: the most recent quarterly crime update covers recorded crime and official crime survey data to June 2003; the Car Theft Index 2003 shows how likely your car was to be stolen; and ASBO statistics show how many Anti-Social Behaviour Orders were granted (and refused) for the period to September 2003.

New Mini-sites

We've added two new Mini-sites, each provided focussed information from experts on the topic

Why are the police protecting me?

A series of new leaflets have been released for the police to use when taking a child into protective custody. They're aimed at 7-10 years age group, 11-16 years age group, parents and guardians, and carers.

Victims of Crime

The Home Office has published a consultation paper, suggesting the creation of a Victims Fund, paid for by a surcharge on offenders sentences. A timely paper by the Audit Commission has also examined the support offered to victims of crime and what those receiving support think of the service.
