Vehicle crime
The Bike Theft Index 2005 - detailing the level of theft of different models and ages of motorcycle, scooter and moped - was published on the site this morning (22 Dec). Alongside this publication is a research report investigating the extent of motorcycle theft, which finds that it is older, less powerful motorcycles that tend to be stolen. A third document released this week provides advice on protecting satellite navigation systems - an increasingly popular item for thefts from vehicles.
Crime statistics
A clutch of reports from the Home Office's Research, Development & Statistics Directorate have given us a range of useful new statistics.
Young people and crime: Findings from the British Crime Survey
Crime in England & Wales: Nature of burglary, vehicle and violent crime supplementary tables
Crime and young people
A pair of publications from the USA this month have highlighted aspects of crime and young people, perhaps taking a slightly different approach than that used in the UK. The first deals with teenagers as victims of crime - an often underrepresented group - and the second looks at the influence of peer pressure and co-offending in children and young people's early offences.
