Crime in England & Wales 2005-06

The annual crime statistics were published this month, incorporating recorded police figures and people's experience of crime as observed through the British Crime Survey. Generally the figures were stable, but a rise in robbery was widely reported in the media and blamed on desirable portable electronic devices such as MP3 players and mobile phones.

Rebalancing the Criminal Justice System

Also widely reported recent was the Home Secretary's intention to review the operation of the Criminal Justice System. The headlines concentrated on 8000 new prison places, but the review also includes a number of proposals that will have a direct impact on practitioners and on CDRPs.
