Tilley Award winners 2006

The Tilley Awards encourage and recognise excellence in crime reduction using problem-oriented partnership principles. They recognise work designed to tackle long-term problems - work that goes beyond making arrests, and incorporates involvement from a range of agencies and organisations to address the root causes of the problems. Our article highlights this year's main award winner - Lancashire Police receive award for their cross-agency work after the disaster in Morecambe Bay - and the three other winners.

New ASBO guidance

Revised guidance on drawing up and enforcing ASBOs has been drawn up by the Home Office. It focusses on flexibility and a multi-agency approach.

Safer communities

Two publications this month have highlighted methods for working more closely with the community in reducing crime. The first is a case study of a demonstration project in Cheshire. It shows how involving the local community in setting crime reduction objectives can lead to positive results. The second examines the Street Wardens Programme and finds that the programme has been well-implemented, but that there's little conclusive evidence of a positive impact having been achieved on the ground.

Internet safety

Two new publications outline measures that parents can take to ensure that their children are able to explot the power of the internet whilst ensuring that their safety is protected.
