Tilley Awards 2007
The Tilley Awards for Problem Oriented Partnerships encourage and recognise excellence in crime reduction using problem-oriented partnership principles. As such, the awards have very close links to problem-oriented crime reduction approaches. Entries are now being invited for the 2007 awards. The overall winners will receive £2500, the chance to present their project to the international problem-solving conference in the USA, and to sit on next year's judging panel. Second and third prize winners will receive £2000 and £1500 respectively. The closing date for entries is 27 April 2007.
Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
We've had several publications in recently on the topic of ASB. Most recently the Respect Programme has published details of the use of a number of tool and interventions used to tackle ASB between 2004 and 2006. It shows the sharpest recent rise to be in Parenting Contracts, whereas the greatest increase in most other measures (such as ASBOs, ABCs and evictions for ASB) came between 2004 and 2005. The National Audit Office has also published a report looking at the effectiveness of measures introduced to reduce ASB. Lastly we've also published details of the number of ASBOs issued around the England & Wales.

Street Crime
Research published just before Christmas has investigated the reported rise in street crime and the changing nature of violent street crime offences - eg carjacking, snatch theft, robbery. They found that street crime is not necessarily motivated by a personal gain on the part of the offender but that there were 5 main motivators: good times/partying, keeping up appearances/flash cash, buzz/excitement, anger/desire to fight, and informal justice/righting wrongs.
