It covers:

The registration process

Two nominated officers from each of the 8 Local Authorities are responsible for carrying out Police checks of those applying for registration. Emphasising the need for motor salvage operators to register was a key objective. The authorities conducted a mail shot of all the likely businesses, advising them of the need to register. They also published a series of articles in the local press (Northern Echo, Sunderland Echo, Durham Advertiser, Hartlepool Mail, Evening Chronicle/Journal and the Auto Trader), advising people of the need to register otherwise face prosecution.

Liaison between police and local authorities

A joint working party has been set up between the Police and the Local Authorities.

Enforcement

PC1196 Barry Moore has been appointed as the Durham Constabulary Enforcement Officer.

The force has established a central database that is accessible to all officers to help them enforce the legislation. The database consists of those businesses registered, those identified as 'possible' traders as well as brief details of any communications sent.
