Neighbourhood Watch

Home

This is the official Home Office Neighbourhood Watch website containing the latest news and information relating to Neighbourhood Watch plus useful documents and links.

There are many other Neighbourhood Watch websites for local schemes and associations. Some of these websites are listed in the Directory of Websites here. If you wish to add your website to the Directory, please click here.

There are also independent Neighbourhood Watch websites directed at the movement nationally. These websites are legitimate and the only requirement is that they obtain permission to use the Neighbourhood Watch logo should they wish to do so. Please support these websites, which are independent of the Government and police, as they will enable the sharing of valuable information and advice among schemes on a wide scale.

Meanwhile, the Home Office is in the process of updating this website and hopes to have a new look soon. We are aware that updates do not happen as quickly as would be liked. We hope to have this resolved in the near future. Meanwhile if you have any comments about this site please contact the Neighbourhood Watch Team on nwatch@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.

The way forward for Neighbourhood Watch

On behalf of the National Strategy Group for Watch Issues (NSGWI) Mark Custerson and Alene Branton have been consulting with Neighbourhood Watch staff and volunteers about the way forward for the movement, particularly about the formation of a representative structure.

Alene and Mark have visited all the Home Office Regions and Wales and there is tremendous enthusiasm so far for a simple representative structure for the movement, based on representatives meeting at Government Office Regional level. One representative from each of the Regions could go forward to represent the Region at National level. The Chair of the National Group could then be a standing member of the National Strategy Group for Watch Issues.

Three symposiums were held during March to bring more members of the movement together to discuss the way forward and to hear further comments about the proposals. (Details of the dates and locations of the symposiums are here.) Thank you to all who attended. The feedback has been very positive.

A report on the results of the symposium will be sent to every attendee and is available here. The outcome of the symposiums will be presented to the NSGWI on 18 April.

If you wish to talk to Mark Custerson about this, he can be contacted on 07738503590 or via email at mark.custerson@herts.pnn.police.uk.

Public Liability Insurance for Neighbourhood Watch schemes - Renewal of cover in 2008.

Following the change in administration of provision of Public Liability Insurance (PLI) cover for Neighbourhood Watch schemes, cover has now been extended to run from 12th January 2007 until 31st March 2008. There has been a substantial reduction in the number of schemes registering for the PLI. Some of this reduction is due to schemes having registered twice in previous years. However, there are also a large number of schemes that have not renewed the cover. If your scheme had a change of co-ordinator or administrator last year, it is important that you inform the insurance administrators. If not, chances are that your scheme's PLI has not been renewed and you are no longer covered. Please contact CaSE at NHW@caseinsurance.co.uk or on 0845 225 2288 if you think this applies to your scheme.

More information about the PLI can be found here.
