Public Liability Insurance (PLI) free cover is available for Neighbourhood Watch schemes and associations in England and Wales. It is managed by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) working in conjunction with Charities & Social Enterprise Insurance Management (CaSE).
PLI policy is due for renewal on 1st April 2008. CaSE insurance have now advised that arrangements have been completed for renewal of PLI cover with Ansvar Insurance Company Ltd. Following the change in administration of provision of PLI, cover has now been extended to run until 31st March 2009. There has been a substantial reduction in the number of schemes registering for the PLI. Some of this reduction is due to schemes having registered twice in previous years. However, there are also a large number of schemes that have not renewed the cover. If your scheme had a change of co-ordinator or administrator last year, it is important that you inform the insurance administrators. If not, chances are that your scheme's PLI has not been renewed and you are no longer covered.
Please contact CaSE at NHW@caseinsurance.co.uk or on 0845 225 2288 if you think this applies to your scheme.
If registering for PLI for the first time, or registering after having allowed an earlier policy to lapse without renewing it in 2007, then although the new policy will show an insurance period from 1st April 2008 until 31st March 2009 cover will automatically be in place from the date of registration for cover in March 2008 until the expiry of cover on 31st March 2009.
