KEY FINDINGS
Respondents' views of asset recovery were generally very positive: 86% of respondents supported it and over half felt it was an effective or very effective crime deterrent.
Public opinion of the police might be improved if awareness of the successful use of asset recovery powers is increased.
While over half of all respondents knew something about asset recovery, only around one in ten respondents (11%) had heard about their local police using asset recovery powers. This suggests that public knowledge about the use of asset recovery powers by the local police is very low and could be improved.
Asset recovery was viewed by respondents as an effective crime reduction technique. It was the third most popular option selected, after more police on the streets and longer prison sentences.
