Bolton Police & CPS – Working together

With the implementation of the PPO strategy and JTrack’s role in assisting with the monitoring and tracking of Prolific and other Priority Offenders, it became apparent that both the Bolton police and CPS had a big part to play in the smooth running of JTrack.

The police PPO co-ordinator identified a counterpart at the CPS to discuss the ways forward for using JTrack within the Bolton area. Both JTrack ‘leads’ have now visited each other’s work place to see how each other works in regards to the input of information on to JTrack, and ensure that if there are any changes in personnel working from either CPS or Police on JTrack that person visits the opposite office to ensure that they are aware of how the other agency works.

They have found that should there be any problems then both agencies now have a named contact person who can assist and help to sort out whatever the problems is.

Both the police and CPS feel that this approach has been beneficial to both agencies and in keeping JTrack running smoothly within the division.

These processes have been replicated in Stockton where the greater co-operation between the agencies has helped towards the area targets and goals. It has also ensured that JTrack is fully up to date with all relevant information (September 07).

Thames Valley Police - Internal communications to JTrack Users

It was recognised locally for the need to ensure all JTrack Users within the police force needed to be kept up to date with information regarding JTrack and the PPO strategy.

Thames Valley Police used a very simple but effective option of creating a ‘JTrack’ group email account which includes all staff involved with JTrack. Information can now be circulated quite easily to all staff using JTrack, including training dates, system changes, etc and has proved very useful in ensuring the correct people receive the relevant information at the touch of a button.

The group email address has also been provided to the Home Office and PA Consulting who now include this address when sending out global emails regarding the strategy and JTrack.

Lincolnshire CPS – Internal e-newsletter

The JTrack lead within Lincolnshire CPS identified that there was the need to communicate news and updates regarding JTrack and the PPO strategy to all CPS within her area. The first issue in September 2005 included information about the names of the Lincolnshire JTrack team, data entry requirements and recent questions raised. Also, to ensure that JTrack Users were kept informed about how the PPO strategy was being delivered across the country was a selection of web links to news stories on the internet.

Leicester – Using JTrack as an operational tool

Along side other police intelligence systems, JTrack is being used more as an operational tool rather than just a monitoring/data input system. For example, JTrack enables Leicester police to see on a daily basis PPOs who have been released on bail/warrants and are due to report. Those that fail to appear are identified and the officer in the case notified so that follow-up action can begin.

They have also found that, with the CPS updating the system regularly, the police are able to use JTrack to find out next court appearance dates for PPOs, reducing the number of telephone enquiries and enabling cases to be collated and heard together on the same day.
