Crime Reduction - Helping to Reduce Crime in Your Area

Guidance for crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships

Weeks of Action

Weeks of Action are brief and intensive periods of activity in specific, usually small, areas to tackle locally identified issues. They involve Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) working in a constructive and collaborative manner with a wide variety of partner agencies to make a visible, strong and sustainable impact on their communities. This guidance is intended to assist all partners and stakeholders in planning and implementing Weeks of Action. The guidance covers both why a Week of Action should be held, and also provides practical ideas on how to make the week a success. The guidance draws on effective practice that has emerged from the experiences of CDRPs around the country, which have held Weeks of Action.

Weeks of Action aim to reduce crime and disorder and make people feel better about the areas in which they live. For local people, they are an opportunity to see and participate in visible change and to take advantage of services of which they may not previously have been aware. For partners, they are a chance to make a positive and lasting improvement to local people’s lives and to raise community awareness of their activities.

Weeks of Action have gained a high profile in recent years due to their significant potential to impact on local crime levels, change the public’s perceptions of crime and raise local people’s awareness of the work being done locally to make communities safer.
