2009 Problem-Oriented Partnerships Conference: Fact or Fiction?
The Problem-Oriented Partnerships Conference was set up in 1998 by a collective of three police forces as an annual event to promote understanding of a problem-oriented approach to crime reduction and prevention. With the creation of Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships/Community Safety Partnerships (CDRPs/CSPs) POP has been adopted by the wider field of community safety practitioners and is no longer just a way of working applicable to the police.
Problem-oriented partnerships are able to apply problem-solving techniques to respond to specific and recurring community safety issues in the most cost-effective way. The real advantage, and challenge, is to apply a problem-oriented approach at the strategic level of the CDRP/CSP so that the ethos runs through all agencies and connects people together in the shared battle against crime and disorder.
The POP Conference is the national event to bring together problem-solving practitioners, analysts, CDRP Chairs and strategic managers to share learning and experiences.
The theme for 12th UK National POP Conference is ‘Fact or Fiction?’ seeking to tease out why some are evangelical about the problem-oriented approach whilst others think POP is just a tired police fad; It promises to spark debate with our panel of leading POP professionals and amongst delegates!
