The Retail Crime Reduction Action Team

The Retail Crime Reduction Action Team (RCRAT) brings together those with a contribution to make at national level to reducing retail crime. http://www.crimereduction.gov.uk/rc_index.htm

RCRAT has:

  • developed a Safer Shopping Award to encourage and recognise town, city and shopping centres that are safe, secure and well-run.
  • developed Primary Action Groups (with Crime Concern) to involve young people in reducing crime

RCRAT is also charged with promoting action to reduce crime against shops in disadvantaged neighbourhoods as part of the Government’s strategy for neighbourhood renewal.

The Action Team is chaired by a senior retail executive and includes representatives from the police, local government, retailers the British Retail Consortium, town centre managers and the Home Office.
