Action to impact on and reduce street behaviour that relates to drugs

Begging, street homelessness and sex work on the street are related to drugs supply in some way. Many participants in each street scene are dependent users and act as signposts to dealers. As such Begging and homelessness outreach programmes and sex worker outreach all reduce the market for drugs.

Robust action to manage public spaces where supply is problematic is also useful. This can include the management of pubs through effective licensing control; management of hostels and day centres for homeless people; cafes and shopping malls where supply occurs helps here. www.drugs.gov.uk/ReportsandPublications/Communities/1034174284/SaferClubbingGuide_txt_version.pdf

The effectiveness of this action flows from efficient policies and use of staff including security guards, support staff and council officers responsible for licensing and even environmental health, which can be a lever for change.
