Strategic analysis

On occasions there is the need to explore in more detail the nature of local crime and disorder problems. The partnership should be prepared to regularly carry out strategic analysis. Types of strategic analysis to perform include,

  • burglary repeat analysis

  • repeat victimisation

  • correlation analysis (e.g. exploring links between local socio-economic conditions and crime and disorder)

  • offender journeys to crime

  • victim profiles

  • offender profiles

  • offender social networks

Whilst these types of analysis need not be focus area specific, they provide valuable information to help understand the nature of local crime and disorder problems, offer additional guidance on why crime and disorder is generated in certain areas, and can provide valuable information for implementing the reduction strategy in a focus area.
