
Crime Reduction Directors
Crime Reduction Directors have been in post since at least 1 October 2000 at the
Government offices in each of the nine English regions and in the National Assembly
for Wales. The role of the Crime Reduction Director will be to help reduce crime
by improving the effectiveness of local crime and disorder reduction partnerships
within the region or Wales. The Director will achieve that by:
Ensuring that partnerships in the region or Wales receive suitable training,
support and guidance.
Managing and advising on the allocation and use of Crime Reduction Programme,
Safer Communities, and Partnership Development funding in the region or Wales
Ensuring that crime reduction issues are fully integrated within the work of
the Government Office for the Region or the National Assembly for Wales
Contributing to the development of effective national policies in crime reduction
Establishing and monitoring the performance of partnerships against their agreed
crime and disorder strategies, working closely with HM Inspector of Constabulary and
the Audit Commission
Ensuring partnerships take account of other regional or local initiatives such
as health action and education action zones, New Deal for communities, regeneration
projects etc.
