How would contracting out all or some of the audit affect planning and project management

  • The time taken to invite contracts and let tenders needs to be written into the project plan.

  • Ensure that systems are in place to monitor and keep in touch with the work of the contractor.

  • Regular review meetings should be set up with the contractor and project manager and steering group where progress on the work is reported and emerging problems are flagged up.

  • Interim written reports should be produced, so that early findings can be discussed and developed.

  • Efforts should be made to compensate for the fact that the contractor may be unfamiliar with the locality and local organisations. Invite contractors to partnership meetings and provide them with contact details for the relevant individuals in partner agencies, voluntary organisations and so on.
