
Prevalence of Offending
Findings from the 1998/99 Youth Lifestyles Survey are that:
The average age at which offending began was 13.5 for boys and 14 for girls
Amongst those aged 12 to 13 a similar proportion of boys and girls offended
(and used drugs and drank regularly)
After the age of 14 the difference between boys and girls becomes marked
Over the age 17, male offenders outnumber women offenders by a ratio of about
3:1
