Schools Inclusion: Pupil Support Joint Guidance

This guidance was issued to schools by the Dept. Education & Employment, the Social Exclusion Unit, Dept. Health and the Home Office. It makes clear that all schools’ behaviour policies should cover racial harassment and information on how staff and pupils should deal with it. Schools should record all racist incidents, and parents and governors should be informed of such incidents and the action taken to deal with them. Governing bodies should inform Local Education Authority’s annually on the pattern and frequency of such incidents. OFSTED will monitor the implementation of anti-bullying policies as part of their programme of regular school inspections and comment on the policies in their inspection reports.

Anti-bullying pack & video http://www.dfee.gov.uk/bullying

Provides advice and guidance on successful strategies to prevent and tackle all forms of bullying, including racist bullying, was re-issued in December 2000. A copy has been made available to all schools.
