Sources of Information

Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnerships can draw upon a wide range of information when identifying repeat victimisation. Police records will be a key source of information on crime, but all agencies involved in the local crime and disorder partnership will have important information to contribute to create a full and accurate picture of the problem. In addition, other community agencies will have information that may confirm or complement existing information.

There are a number of issues to be borne in mind in gathering data. These are covered in more detail in the Practical Tools Section and include:

  • How accurate and compatible available information is;

  • The victim as a source of information;

  • Agency confidentiality.
