Where are trafficked victims from?

There are many examples of women being trafficked from South East Asia, and more recently a considerable increase in women from Central and Eastern Europe. Similarly, it is known that West African girls are a particular target for trafficking via the UK into the Italian sex industry.

Having said this, almost any nationality can be found working in the UK sex industry. Equally, trafficking groups are highly adaptive and will take advantage of political and economic developments throughout the world. It follows that it is dangerous to have too rigid a conception of where traffickers or those trafficked may be from.
