CCTV Data

The use and disclosure of photographs and CCTV images of an individual will normally fall under the remit of the Data Protection Act and other legal restrictions such as the common law and the Human Rights Act. Many of the same considerations apply to CCTV data as they do to any other form of personal information.

Access and disclosure of CCTV images and similar equipment needs to be restricted and carefully controlled not only in the interests of the individual but also to ensure that they remain intact for evidential purposes. CCTV data is a specialised area and it will not normally be necessary for partnerships

The Information Commissioner has produced a helpful outline of the key issues involved and a detailed code of practice.
