Getting started

So that you can carry out a successful vehicle crime reduction campaign in your area you will need to devise a plan and answer some of these questions:

  • Is vehicle crime a problem in your area?

  • Are you concerned about it?

  • Do you or your community group want to do something about it?

If the answers to the above is “yes” you will need to think about the following:

  • What are you prepared to do about it?

  • Who are you going to involve?

Can you get key people and other residents interested? The list of partners could include:

  • other local community groups

  • young people

  • local authority staff

  • police

  • community members

Your beat officer will be able to let you have local vehicle crime figures.

Once you are happy that you can bring together the level of support you need you can start planning your campaign.

Think about:

  • How will you plan it?

  • How long will it run for?

  • What resources are available and what others will you need?

  • Is there a need to raise funds? If so, how will you raise them?

  • How you will monitor and evaluate the project?

  • How you will know your campaign was successful?
