The report set out to look at what effect the Street Wardens Programme (SWP) was having, in particularly looking to see if they have:
- Improved the physical appearance of streets
- Fostered social inclusion
- Reduced crime and fear of crime, and
- Deterred anti-social behaviour (ASB)
The report also looks at the background of the SWP and the duties undertaken.
Some of the conclusions drawn from the evaluation were to look if the SWP has been successful in its attempts at reducing the fear of crime and deterring ASB.
The report also highlights from the evaluation undertaken what are characteristics of a good warden scheme.
It draws to the conclusion that the SWP has had an inconclusive effect on the area's they have been deployed. Although there is evidence that the SWP have improved liveability in the area's it has often come from sources that may be biased. There is also just as much evidence to say that the SWP hasn't had an effect due to a number of reasons. The general consensus is however that the Street wardens programme has been well implemented despite the limited success.
