Audit Commission
The Audit Commission appoints auditors to all local authorities and NHS bodies in England and Wales, and helps to bring about improvements in economy, efficiency and effectiveness through value for money studies and the audit process.
The Commission’s Community Safety Website provides statutory partnerships set up under the Crime & Disorder Act 1998 with expert guidance and case studies of good practice to support partnership development. Partnerships are invited to submit case studies for inclusion.
Material is divided into these broad headings:
-
Developing Partnerships - The Crime and Disorder Act requires local authorities and the police to co-operate and collaborate with a range of organisations to develop a local strategy to tackle the problems of crime and disorder..
-
Conducting Crime & Disorder Audits - The audit is the first analysis of local crime and problems. An effective audit is critical to the success of the local community safety
-
Developing Effective Strategies - Each partnership must produce a three year strategy for its local area. This is a public statement of the partnership's priorities and the specific action to tackle local problems.
-
Working Locally - Partnerships need to ensure successful local delivery of crime reduction strategies.. Every partnership needs a comprehensive understanding of the community and its problems and how to involve the community in reaching appropriate, sustainable solutions.
