We hope this guide will be a useful resource for forces and partner agencies who, though not involved in TKAP, are working to understand their knife crime problem and develop interventions to reduce the harm caused by youth knife crime. It will also be of interest to those who have been involved in TKAP since June 2008 or those who joined the second phase of TKAP in April 2009 when the programme was extended to cover 16 force areas.
We have captured just some of the good work implemented during TKAP Phase One. Forces and partners have worked hard to step up activity to engage young people, to deliver innovative interventions to prevent knife crime, and to implement tough, targeted enforcement activity. This has made a real difference to the levels of youth knife crime in TKAP areas and demonstrates to the public that we are committed to tackling youth violence.
By sharing our learning and working together we hope that government, police, families and communities can make a difference and tackle the culture that can lead to violence.
